The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chairperson Archbishop (Rtd) Eliud Wabukala has appealed to Kenyans to vote in the right people in order to rid the country of corruption.
The EACC Chairperson who was addressing the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) Board of Directors during a capacity building workshop in Mimbada said that voters can help the country slay the corruption dragon by electing the right people.
Archbp Wabukala however lamented that politicians use weaknesses and loopholes in anti-corruption laws to get away with corruption. He cited the fact that during the 2017 General Elections the Commission had recommended thatb106 politicians should not be cleared to vie for seats due to various integrity issues however the courts cleared them.
The EACC Chairperson took the opportunity to enumerate the recent successes of the Commission which include 169 convictions won out of 275 cases finalized in court. The commission has also recovered public assets worth Kshs.25 billion in the last five (5) years.
Wabukala also said the Commission had also managed to avert possible loss of public an estimated Kshs.30.4 billion worth of public assets.
The lead anti-graft body, EACC has been on the frontline of President Uhuru’s wide-ranging sweep up of corruption in both the public and private sectors.
