The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will probe allegations of ghost workers and fraud in Kisii County following an alarm raised by incoming Governor Simba Arati.

The Governor yesterday revealed that he had uncovered irregularities within the County involving ghost employees procurement of vehicles and insurance of the same.

According to Governor Arati, vehicles belonging to the Countyb were in possession of County employees, procurement of motor vehicle insurance had irregularities. The rot extended upto the County Assembly.

Arati said that 256 drivers had been recruited against 82 vehicles, some of the county government vehicles have only third party insurance covers whereas records indicate comprehensive insurance plans were procured.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) EACC Twalib Mbarak, in a statement, said that his agency had taken note of the serious allegations and will probe the matter.

“EACC expects the incoming Governors and their administrations to cooperate and give us details of these emerging corruption scams to inform our interventions. We hope that they will not fall prey to any temptations to run down their counties like some of their predecessors,” said Mbarak.
