The United States government has banned former Nairobi County Governor and his immediate family members from entering their country over corruption.
The US government said it had credible information that the former Governor was involved in “significant” corrupt dealings when he was in office.
The US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said accordingly, Sonko and his wife Primrose, and their daughters Saumu, Salma, Sandrah, and also his minor child is all ineligible to enter the US.
The US government said the corrupt dealings involved kickbacks and irregular awarding of contracts for his personal gains.
Sonko, who was impeached from office in 2020, is currently facing a myriad of cases in court among them corruption allegations, assault and terrorist-linked offences.
Although he has maintained that he is innocent, last month the embattled former Governor lost a bid to have the courts suspend his prosecution in a Kshs. 357 million graft case at the Anti-Corruption Court in Milimani.
