Outgoing Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his four is today appearing before the anti-corruption court for the hearing Ksh.73million case.
The Governor and 16 others who including his children was charged with corruption offences involving abuse of office, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public funds and money laundering.
The case involves the alleged loss Migori Government funds amounting to Kshs.73 which was wired to various companies and later transferred to the Governor’s children’s bank accounts for payment of school fees in various universities abroad, acquisition of high-end motor vehicles and purchase of a house in Loresho Ridge.
The case follows investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which went after the properties suspected to be proceeds of proceeds of corruption.
The Governor was trounced by his rival Ochilo Ayacko, the incoming Migori Governor Elect at the just concluded General Elections.
The corruption case against the Governor is among four corruptions cases which are scheduled for hearing before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court this week. Others include a case involving Ksh. 100 million against a former Deputy Auditor General and 19 others, a case against outgoing Busia Governor Ojaamong over loss of Ksh.8million and a case against former National Lands Commission Chair and his Chief Executive Officer over Kshs. 221million paid out illegally as compensation for land used to construct the SGR.
