The graft case against Ferdinand Waititu aka Babayao former Kiambu Governor has picked up pace with the presentation of the first witness by the ODPP. Dr. Justus Bundi, Director Supply Chain Management at the County Government of Kiambu appeared on court on 4th November, 2020 to give evidence against Waititu and his 12 accomplices over the irregular award of a whopping Sh.588,198,328.20 roads tender in Kiambu County. Dr Bundi told the court that the Kiambu County tender evaluation committee introduced a formerly nonexistent evaluation criterion namely serialization of documents, for ease of awarding of the tender. Dr. Bundi is part of 69 witnesses that the ODPP has lined up to testify in the trial. Waititu and the 12 accomplices face a myriad of charges including conflict of interest, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with laws relating to procurement, engaging in fraudulent practices in procurement, dealing with suspect property, fraudulent acquisition of public property and money laundering. The hearing dates for the case have been sent for 1/3/2021 to 4/3/2021 and 29/3/2021 to 1/4/2021.
