The fight against corruption continues unabated with several cases proceeding to the hearing stages even as the country gears up to usher new leaders.

Currently, proceedings for the hearing of corruption cases against Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, Lari Member of Parliament Jonah Mburu among others started at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court in Nairobi.

The Busia Governor is defending himself against graft accusations including abuse of office, conspiracy to commit the offence of an economic crime, engaging in a project without prior planning and fraud was scheduled for hearing between 2-5th August 2022. The governor was arrested in July 2018 by the anti-graft agency Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the Kshs.8million graft case. His attempts to thwart the case came to a halt in May this year after the court to suspend the proceedings.

Similarly, the hearing of the corruption case against Lari Member of Parliament Jonah Mburu and other officials of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), Pambazuka Distributors, Rumuli Company Limited, Company Limited,Ndembeki Company Limited commenced at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court scheduled for hearing between 1st to 5th August, 2022. The MP and co accused are facing allegations of embezzlement of public funds and abuse of office.

The Lari MP was arrested by EACC detectives in September 2020 over the corruption allegations involving over Ksh.27 million embezzled from the CDF kitty.

Another case which has proceeding to the hearing stage involves former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) accused of engaged in procurement irregularities is linked to the infamous “Chickengate” scandal involves Ksh.50million. The case against former CEO James Oswago, Trevy Oyambra, Hamida Kibwana are accused of procurement irregularities, conflict of interest, and receiving a benefit in the award of tender for the supply of ballot papers for South Mugirango Constituency By-Election. The case is scheduled to be heard between 1st and 3rd August 2022.
