The country is today commemorating the International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD), on this day.9th December, which was designated by United Nations, with celebrations being held in the two Counties of Mombasa and Isiolo. Mombasa County is the venue for the National celebrations.
It is especially on this day, that Kenyans as a whole, and key stakeholders engaged in fighting the vice that is corruption, get to look back and celebrate the gains made in combating corruption, and even look forward to the continued efforts in years ahead by mobilising the entire nation to the cause.
This year Kenya has joined other nations around the world to observe the anti-corruption day, under the theme; “Your right, your role: Say no to corruption”, with content being shared under #NoToCorruption and #IACD2021.
The commemorations are taking place in the country with the anti-graft body the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) leading all stakeholders engaged in fighting corruption under the umbrella Kenya Leadership and Integrity Forum (KLIF).
According to the United Nations the 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day seeks to highlight the rights and responsibilities of everyone – including States, Government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officers, media representatives, the private sector, civil society, academia, the public and youth – in tackling corruption.
The day, the 13th Edition of the IACD, is being observed with colour and pomp and a myriad of activities ongoing trainings, Caravans for public outreach programmes to create awareness, sporting activities, clean-ups, Sensitization workshops, webinars, debates, talk shows on TV and Radio to highlight the day. The activities leading to this day have been going for an entire past week preceding today.
To date, the IACD celebrations have been held in 39 Counties since 2009. The KLIF which co-ordinates the commemorations, is a multi-sectoral forum which brings together stakeholders for a unified and integrated fight against corruption. Members are drawn from the anti-corruption and economic crimes Multi Agency Teams, the public sector and private sector institutions. This engagement has been key in mobilizing the country and especially the private sector to entrench the fight against corruption within their member institutions, and to entrenching of transparency and accountability in public institutions.
