The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested six senior officials of the County Government of Vihiga for various corruption offences.
The commission said it undertook investigations following allegations of procurement irregularities and conflict of interest in the award of tenders for Supply of Toners and provision of Capacity Building and Development of a Risk Management Policy in the County Government of Vihiga.
It was alleged that the tenders were irregularly awarded to M/s Boyse Ventures Limited to undertake capacity building and develop a Risk Management Policy, and supply toners at a tender sum of Sh8,000,000 and Sh6,336,000 respectively. during the Financial Year 2014/2015.
The arrested are Wilberforce Ndula-Chief Officer, Finance, Beatrice Alosa-Principal Finance Officer, Ernest Ambaka Lukayu-Head of Treasury, Nathaniel Ahaza-Former Head of Procurement and Director Boyse-Ventures Ltd, Peter Vulimu Ejimba Accountant, Elizabeth Mmbone Masidza-Director, Boyse Ventures Ltd.
Jonson Ombaka-Head of Internal Audit and Antonina Sangura Director Boyse Ventures Ltd are yet to be arrested.
They will be arraigned before Kakamega Law Courts on Friday.
It was also established that the Head of Procurement at the County Government of Vihiga Mr. Nathaniel Ahaza, is a Director at M/s Boyse Ventures Limited, the Company that was awarded the tender hence resulting in a conflict of interest.
Upon conclusion of investigations, EACC submitted the Investigation Report to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who upon review of the Report concurred with the recommendations of EACC.
DPP granted consent to arrest and charge the suspects with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, and conflict of interest.
