Earning an attractive salary and holding the top position in a prestigious institution is the kind of job many Kenyans dreams of. And many would go to great lengths to protect their jobs and the perks that come with them.
To the utter shock of many, the Director-General (the equivalent of a CEO), of one of the top parastatals in Kenya, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Mr. Pavel Robert Oimeke, was recently arraigned in Court on 14th January 2021 to face corruption charges of demanding for a bribe, which landed him before the Anti-Corruption Court.
The top honcho of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority was arrested after EACC acted in response to a report that on 2nd December 2020, Mr. Oimeke demanded a bribe of Kshs. 500,000/= in order to authorize the unsealing and opening of a filling station in Homa Bay County.
The Director-General pleaded not guilty and he was released on a cash bail of Kshs. 200,000.
